Cosmopolitan was popularized by Sex and the City in the 1990s, but codified by the great bartender Dale DeGroff at New York's Rainbow Room. Under its glamorous appearance and seductive pink color, the Cosmo is a precise construction: lemon vodka, Cointreau, lime and cranberry dosed with rigor for the perfect balance.
Preparation
Put the cups in the freezer 10 minutes before.
Pour vodka, Cointreau, lime and cranberry into a shaker filled with ice cubes.
Shake energetically for 15 seconds.
Double-filter into the cold cup.
Express an orange peel by folding it over the glass.
Garnish the edge with zest.
Cranberry is the sensitive variable: too sweet = syrupy, too little = colorless. Always use unsweetened cranberry. Absolut Citron amplifies citrus notes.
